China counts 9 million people with epilepsy, nearly a third of them never treated, according to the head of the China Association Against Epilepsy. Li Shizhuo, president, said the lack of treatment was due to insufficient medical resources in many areas of the country and poor acknowledgment of the illness in several remote areas. Nearly half lack access to medical care, another third relies on treatment by unqualified medical workers, Li said.
